Alma Gean Black

December 2, 1924 — September 7, 2020

Alma Gean (Williams) Black, 95, went home to be with her Lord on September 7, 2020 peacefully in her home.  She was born December 2, 1924 to Burl Alcy Crawford Williams and Lula Jane (Groves) Williams and was the youngest of 9 children.  She is survived by two daughters Wynette Hughes and husband Edwin Hughes of Letona where she had resided for the past 4 years and Carolyn Black Daniels Allen and her husband Steve of Springfield, MO.  Also, two granddaughters; Shauna Daniels Morris and husband Craig of Ft. Worth, TX and Shelly Daniels Stephens and husband Brian of Pineville, Missouri, and Dr. Bradley Hughes of Searcy, Arkansas plus 5 great grandchildren.  Preceding her in death was her husband Wilbert J (Dub) Black and most recently her grandson Marshall Hughes.

She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman, serving her Lord alongside her husband as he pastored several rural churches in White and Cleburne Counties, playing the piano or teaching a Sunday School Class or cleaning the church or whatever the need happened to be.  She taught her daughters how to cook and sew and care for a home where she practiced her gift of hospitality.  She and her husband would many times sing duets together; she at the piano and Dub playing his guitar.  One of her favorite things to do was when her nieces and nephews would gather around the piano to sing while she played the old hymns.  Even though it was her dream, her gift of playing the piano never rubbed off on either of her daughters!

In 1967 she helped with the opening of Unity Health White County Medical Center as one of the first employees, serving in various positions.

The family wishes to thank all those in the medical community who have cared for her in the last several months including Dr. Reid Thomas, Arkansas Hospice and the many caregivers who came into our home.
