Doyle Nichols, 82, of Kensett, died peacefully with his family at his side Monday, April 4, 2011. Mr. Nichols was born January 2, 1929 in Bald Knob to the late Frank Cleveland and Ellen Stevens Nichols.
In August of 1956, Mr. Nichols gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized in the Doniphan Lake. From that time, he became a member of Kensett First Baptist Church, and later became a Deacon of the Church. Mr. Nichols had a long joyous life, and worked in several different trades including working on several missile sites around Arkansas, a flooring mill in Doniphan, Arkansas, worked for Remington Rand/Vickers in Searcy until he semi-retired, and the last few years of his life he drove for different car dealerships in Searcy in which he enjoyed the many vehicles he drove, including a yellow corvette.
In his past time, he enjoyed woodworking, drawing, hunting, fishing, and camping as well as going to Georgetown to eat fish; and we will never forget his sense of humor and always making people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Cleveland Nichols.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Nichols is his loving wife of 60 years, Wanda Reedy Nichols; three children, Gayla Smith and husband Carlon, Darlene Piker and husband Dewight, and Trisha Moreland and husband Chet; seven grandchildren, Courtney Due and husband Ryan, Jennefer Layrock and husband Danny, Tara Scott and husband Tyler, Latisha Davis, Ashley Piker, Matthew Davis, and Joshua Moreland; three great-grandchildren, Maddalyn Layrock, Carson Due, and London Scott; four sisters, Mildred Blair, Margie Chupp and husband Carl, Louella Merrideth and husband Louis, and Gertrude Athern and husband Cy.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 6 from 6-8 PM at the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m Thursday, April 7 at the First Baptist Church in Kensett with Pastor Joe Clement officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Judsonia under the direction of Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.
