TMCS SS, John Irving Herron, U.S. Navy (Retired) 71, of Searcy, Arkansas went to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 7, 2010. He was born in Easley, S.C. on March 15, 1938 to the late Seab Terel and Lena Dorthula Herron. John was a resident of Searcy for over fourteen years and was a member of Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Searcy. John joined the navy in 1955 where he became a submarine sailor. John later voluntered for UDT-BUDS which later became known as the United States Navy Seal Team. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam being wounded in all three tours. Being wounded in Vietnam disqualified him from the Navy Seals so he returned to submarine duty where he remained until his retirement from the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the navy, John spent the next twenty-seven years in construction work and retired this career in 1998.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 31 years, Frances Herron; six children, Sheryl Davis (Wayne), Embry Mosley (Stephanie), Cindy Pommell Powls (Dennis), Patti Sherman (Peter), Melanie Finch (Duane), and Jonathan Herron; One brother, James F. Herron also, one sister, Jeanette Howard both of Easley, S.C.; twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by many other relatives and a host of friends, all who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held 12:00 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service which will begin at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Searcy, Arkansas under the direction of Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
