Joe C. Lemmons succumbed to his battle with cancer on January 27, 2007 in Searcy, Arkansas at the age of 85. He was born on November 29, 1921 in Paragould, Arkansas, the son of Ivan and Eva Greenway Lemmons. He served as a Marine Sgt. in WW II in the Pacific Islands and Washington D.C. from 1942-46. He received a BA degree from Harding College in 1949. He was a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ for churches in Hamilton and Chillicothe, Missouri; Rochester, New York; New Egypt and Freehold, NJ; Idaho Springs and Parker, Colorado. He was the moving force behind the establishment of the churches in Chillicothe and Freehold. During his time in New Jersey, he was also a social worker for the State of New Jersey in the Youth and Family Services division for 15 years. He and his wife Lois were both active with the WCMC Auxillary. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; a sister, Noma; and three brothers, Bernard, Donald and Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois (Hemingway); five children, Karen Mason and Anita Lietzke of Fayetteville, AR, Wayne Lemmons of Sarasota, FL, J. Lemmons of Searcy, Brian Lemmons of Kings Park, NY; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Joe's love for God and his family took precedence over everything else in life. His quiet strength and deep faith were an encouragement to everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Searcy Children's Home or Paragould Children's Home.
