Marvin R. Boggs age 88 of Searcy, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Marvin was born in Rose Bud, Arkansas on August 23, 1921 the fourth child of the late Albert D. and Lillie Mae (Crow) Boggs. He graduated in the class of 1940 in Rose Bud, Arkansas. He entered the United States Army on August 29, 1942 at Camp J.T. Robinson Arkansas. He served his country as a Surgical Tech/Ambulance driver during WWII in Europe. He was awarded four Bronze Stars while serving in the southern France Rome-Arno Rhineland Central Europe campaigns. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Metal and was honorably discharged November 27, 1945. He retired after twenty-five years of service at the Memphis plant of Kellogg's Company headquartered in Battle Creek, MI. He was among the first employees and was able to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary of the Memphis plant in November 2008. Marvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Searcy since 1985.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and their spouses, Inez and Richard Ferrell, Gladys and Elmer Barger and Avinell and Tommy Bennett; one brother and his spouse, Ewell D. and Velear Boggs.
He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Maxine (Langford) Boggs of the home; his children, Rita Kay (Boggs) Nilles and her husband Phillip of Searcy and Carol (Boggs) Miller and her husband Gary of Anderson, SC; one sister, Eva-Dean Thompson and her husband Maurice of Memphis, TN.;five grandchildren, David L. Nilles (Leah) and Amy Nilles all of Florida, also, Joshua M. Miller (Rebecca), John A. Miller (Stacy) and Margaret Ruth Kelly (Matthew) all of South Carolina; four great grandchildren, Samuel Woods and Troy Joshua Miller of South Carolina also, Luke Andrew Nilles and Tyler Owen Nilles of Florida; Also, many extended family members, church family and a host of friends.
Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 6, 2009 prior to the funeral service which will begin at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Searcy under the direction of Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.
Interment will follow the service at Honey Hill Cemetery in Searcy.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of choice or to First Baptist Church ministry for the hearing impaired.
