Max LaRue Hafner

Max Hafner, 84, died February 22, 2018, surrounded by his family at his home in Searcy, Arkansas. 

 

Max Hafner was born on May 14, 1933 in Cogan Station, PA to William and Mabel Hafner. He earned a BA from Lycoming College, PA and served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant during the years 1956-1958. He was married to Joanne Griffith Hafner for 59 years. He worked for the Williamsport Water Authority for 40 years as a chemist and then a superintendent before retiring in 1995. He served as an elder at the South Williamsport Church of Christ before moving to Arkansas in 2010. He was an active member of the West Side Church of Christ, Searcy Arkansas.

His interests included family, Bible reading, prayer, gardening, fishing, hunting, homemade ice-cream, and a regular jack-of-all-trades. He devoted much of his time and energy to family, church, and care of little children.

 

Max Hafner is survived by his wife, Joanne Griffith Hafner, and eight children; Tammy Dawson (Daniel), of Searcy, AR; Margie Dugan of Spring, Texas; Debbie Hafner of Jersey Shore, PA; Joseph Hafner of Searcy, AR; Charles Hafner of S.Williamsport, PA; Allen Hafner of Williamsport, PA; Michelle Marino (Bradd) of Searcy, AR; and April Hafner of Philadelphia, PA; Thirteen grandchildren: Timothy Dawson, Joanna Nix, Julie and Carissa Dawson, Erica Lunn, Alyssa Nix, Jacob Laubach, Megan Nichols, Donivenn, Landenn, Owenn, Gavenn, and Grace Marino; and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Ann Hafner, father William F. Hafner, and mother Mabel Hinkleman Hafner.


Memorials may be sent to the West Side Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. 

 

The memorial service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the West Side Church of Christ at 10:00am with Minister Steve Reeves officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Searcy McEuen Funeral Home. Visitation service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the West Side Church of Christ from 2:00-4:00pm. Burial at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in N. Little Rock, AR. Final resting place heaven.
