O.B. Wortham, 91, of Rose Bud, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011. He was born September 14, 1919 in Rose Bud, the son of the late William Calvin and Cordelia Starkey Wortham.
Mr. Wortham served in the United States Army during WWII as part of the 84th Infantry Division, known as the Railsplitters. He was stationed in Europe and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his time in the military, he came back to Arkansas and began farming, in which he was in the Grade A dairy business until he retired.
He was a member of the Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, and he enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, and spending time with family, friends, and his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vivian L. Wortham; three daughters, Wanda Holland of Searcy, Betty Rocka of Little Rock, and Colleen Massengale of Searcy; two sons, Gary Wortham and Jerry Wortham, both of Rose Bud; four grandchildren, Lyndell Massengale, Brent Massengale, Greg Wortham, and Kristie Morrison; two great grandchildren, Connor Wortham and Lynnlee Morrison; 2 brothers and 4 sisters; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, May 29, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.
